Cessna 210 missions can vary widely. You’ll love this airplane’s capabilities, capacity, and comfort.
Want to imagine what you can do with N661TM? Here are a few examples.
Family summer vacation
A July trip from Battle Creek MI (KBTL) to Mackinac Island (KMCD). This flight is a 215nm flight planned to take about 1h23m.
You and your family are making your yearly trip to Mackinac Island. You have always loved the island as it takes your family back in time to a place where you can peel the technology out of the hands of your kids for a few days. In the past, you were never excited about the 4-hour drive and 1+ hour wait for a ferry to the island. Not this year. This year you will be flying 611TM and will land right on the island. You have even thought ahead and called for a horse taxi to meet you when you land. This means you will be basically adding 4 hours of family time to the island this weekend.
You plan to depart at 8 am EDT so you can get to the island and get settled into your room at Mission Point Resort. Your planned ETA is 9:23 am EDT, leaving you plenty of time to hang out at the resort before grabbing some bikes and heading to one of your favorite lunch spots on the island, Chuck Wagon, for a burger!
You were planning the flight earlier in the week and the question about luggage came up. Great thing is that’s not a big deal. 611TM always has 70 gallons of gas on board so that leaves you with tons of room for weight. You told everyone there are only 2 rules for luggage this weekend: #1 duffels only (they are easier to put in 611TM) #2 you pack it, you carry it. Even if everyone packs 100lbs each with you and your family aboard your take-off weight would be 3613lbs, almost 200lbs less than MAX gross weight. You are not even concerned about how much they pack because nobody will be able to carry 100lbs alone. The great thing about having 70 gallons when you take off is that’s enough gas to fly to KMCD and back to KBTL landing on Sunday with 22 gallons left to burn.
As you take off from KBTL at 8 am, this morning is a little cooler and that helps 611TM climb faster. In less than 10 minutes you are cruising at 7000ft and heading directly to KMCD. By the time you have set up for cruise and lean of peak, you’ll be cruising at 155kts and burning between 11-12GPH. One of the creature comforts of 611TM is an audio system that allows you to play music through the audio system and headsets. This may make it feel like a drive, but it’s a far cry from driving 70 mph up I-75—you’re flying at 7000ft going almost 180mph.
About 40 minutes later, you are 60 miles out and start your descent. You know 611TM picks up speed in the descent and you want to get slowed down and prep for a shorter 3500’ runway. As you put the gear down and check red blue green on a final approach you see your first horse taxi below you on the road on short final. The family is excited that you flew all the way here in about the same time it took you to wait for a ferry and ride over to the island last year.
Couples weekend getaway
A July trip from Battle Creek MI (KBTL) to Asheville NC (KAVL). This flight is a 431nm flight that is planned to take about 2h44m.
You and your friends need to work a ½ day Friday before jumping into 611TM for the flight. Planning a departure at 2:00 pm EDT puts your arrival of 4:45 pm, just in time for a happy hour at New Belgium Brewing’s new brewery in Asheville.
During your planning you notice that the gas in Asheville is almost $1 more per gallon than back home in BTL, so you plan the flight and load up on full fuel. With yourself and your passengers you are carrying full fuel, 700lbs of people, and 200lbs of bags (50lbs each). This leaves you with 81lbs of wiggle room at takeoff, and you’re not limiting any of your passengers to less baggage than they are used to packing with an airline. Your only note is to pack in duffles so you can stack the luggage better than suitcases.
While the plane is hot on the ground, taking off in mid-July on this summer day leaves you worried, but you know that the big engine can pull 611TM off the ground and get you and your passengers in the cooler air cruising at 10,000ft in less than 15 minutes.
Once in cruise, if 611TM hasn’t shown off enough yet, it’s about to. You lean over to the JPM-700 and choose lean of peak find settings. Slowly twisting the mixture down to the proper lean of peak sets, you see that the fuel flow is sipping gas at 11-12gph while still cruising 150kts plus. With this kind of performance, you can skip landing in Asheville and change your mind and fly all the way to Charleston SC, an extra 200nm and still have 35 gallons when you land.
At about 50nm, you start to plan your descent by pulling a few inches of manifold pressure. This will slow your speed down as 611TM picks up speed in the descent and saves you a few more pounds per hour in burn for the descent. As you descend, the cabin air keeps your passengers cool and enjoying the beautiful sights into KAVL. As you put the gear down and check red blue green on a final approach, you get a little thirsty thinking about your first beer after completing a successful mission.
Guys Golf Weekend
A July trip from Battle Creek MI (KBTL) to Sand Valley Golf Resort landing in Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin (KISW). This flight in total is a 280nm and total time of 1h56m, with a route towards Manistee before making the 53nm flight over Lake Michigan at 10,000ft.
You’re super excited to make this trip to an amazing golf course with your golfing buddies.
One of your buddies can’t get out of work on Friday until late in the day. If you were driving, you’d be looking at a 7-hour drive through Chicago right at the end of rush hour. Instead, you will be departing at 5:30 pm EDT and arriving by 6:30 pm CDT, leaving you and your buddies enough time to play a few at the Sand Box before having dinner and getting ready for your tee time at 7:45 am Saturday. You choose this route because it allows you enough time to climb up to cruising altitude and trims the time over water to a very small point of no return over the lake.
Loading 611TM is easy, with 4 golf bags and 4 duffles. You left yourself 400lbs of luggage allowance in total with 4 guys, which puts 611TM at 3735lbs take off weight, including 42 gallons of fuel on board.
The climb out to 10,000ft is uneventful and takes about 15 minutes to climb up to cruise. You get settled and go through your lean of peak procedure that produces cruise of about 155kts at about 12gph. One hour in, you make the turn over Manistee and are direct KISW. With a quick check of the fuel burn and ground speed, you see you are right on target with your times from the ForeFlight NavLog and know you can make it safely with your reserve to spare.
At about 60nm, you plan your descent by pulling a few inches of manifold pressure. This will slow your speed down as 611TM picks up speed in the descent and saves you a few more pounds per hour in burn. As you descend, the cabin air keeps your buddies cool and looking forward to their first beers on the course. As you put the gear down and check red blue green on a final approach you get excited to jump in the rental car at the FBO and embark on the most dangerous part of your day, the drive to Sand Valley Resort.
